What is a tooth gem?

A tooth gem is a semi-permanent, lead free, non toxic tooth crystal or gold piece of jewelry adhered to your tooth. It consists of a non invasive procedure that involves placing jewelry on your tooth/teeth.

Will I feel the gem in my mouth?

Yes, initially you will feel something new on your tooth, but after a few days you will get used to the feeling.

How long will the jewelry stay on my teeth?

Tooth gems can last anywhere between a few months to a few years. The longevity of tooth gems depends entirely on the individual. The natural acidity of your saliva and diet will affect how long it lasts. This also depends on your at home care, the size of the gem, and placement on the tooth.

How do I remove the tooth gem when I no longer want it?

They may fall off naturally. We do not offer tooth gem removal. Please see your dental professional to have removed properly.

Does the application procedure hurt?

Nope! It is a safe and easy procedure that takes about 15-20min, with nom drilling! We use dental grade material and LED light to adhere the gem to your natural tooth surface. This process is very similar to placing a ortho bracket on a tooth for braces.

Can I still have my teeth cleaned by a dental professional?

Yes, they can clean around them just like ortho brackets. Please follow your dental professionals recommended advice and always practice proper dental hygiene.

Will the gem harm my tooth?

No, they are safe. Using proper dental materials and OSHA guidelines aids in the highest safety. You can be sure our tooth gem technicians are trained in their professional application and are using the highest quality dental grade materials.

Can I get a tooth gem on my crown?

No, only natural teeth. Gems cannot be applied to any artificial tooth surface such as crowns, caps, veneers or dentures.

What are the gems?

We use genuine crystals that are lead free and non toxic. They do NOT contain dangerous plastics or acrylics, and are safe for oral use. They are stain resistant with a flat back and foiled platinum surface.

Can I get a tooth gem if I’m under 18 with parental permission?

Yes, with parent/guardian present(guardian will need to prove guardianship). Over 18 will need proper identification.

Is the adhesive bonding agent safe for my teeth?

Yes, it’s a dental grade adhesive that is used in the application of traditional braces.

Can I wear a tooth gem if I have a retainer?

Tooth gems will not properly fit under clear plastic retainers, such as Invisalign, Smile Direct and other full coverage retainers as well as mouth guards. If you have a traditional wire retainer and bring it to your appointment, we will be able to apply the tooth gem in a specific place that won’t interfere with your retainer. Smaller gems are recommended.

Does the tooth gem obstruct regular brushing?

Do not brush directly over the gem within the initial 24 hours of application. Do not use an electric tooth brush for at least 48 hours after. Brush regularly and always practice good dental hygiene. You will want to gently brush around the gem to avoid any build up.

Are there any suggested food restrictions for wearing a gem?

No eating or drinking anything but water for the first 1-2 hours. Avoid hard foods and candies for the first 12 hours.

What if the gem falls off and I swallow it?

No worries! The gem is lead free, non toxic and will pass naturally.
